Parents can often feel overwhelmed when they first join Scouting. It's a whole new world, often with a whole new vocabulary to learn too! Below are some of our most commonly asked questions put into one place!

When and where do you meet?

We meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 at Windom Fire Hall at 3736 Abbott Road, Orchard Park, NY 14127. The first and third Tuesday's are generally Den meetings, when boys of the same age get together to work on an adventure or activity. The Third Tuesday is generally our Pack Meentings, when all the boys of all age groups do something as a group together. The second Tuesday is our Parents meeting where we plan activities for the Pack. We also do "Go-See-It's" on throughout the year as well. When in doubt, consult our Pack 592 Calendar.

How much does scouting cost?

Pack Dues are $130 (then $100 each for brothers). That covers the cost of supplies, advancements, insurance, Boys Life Magazine, unit registration fees, scout registration fees, and many activities during the year. Some overnight and other special activities may have additional activity fees during the year as well. In addition, boys will also need a uniform and handbook as well. The cost of Scouting can also be lowered by participating in Fundraising as well.

Where can I get a uniform?

Class A uniforms (the blue or khaki shirt and neckerchief) can be purchased at the Greater Niagara Frontier Council Resource Center located at 2860 Genesee Street, Buffalo, NY 14225. In addition to uniforms, the Scout Shop offers handbooks and a ton of other really great camping and scouting supplies. For more information about the Scout Shop, including current promotions and hours, visit the GNFC Scout Shop web page. We also offer custom Pack 592 T-shirts and sweatshirts that we wear on activities where we are going to be active or when a Class A uniform would not be appropriate. These are referred to as a Class B uniform. The Pack usually makes a bulk order of Class B uniforms every fall.

Which uniform should my scout wear?

Class A uniforms are required for all meetings, ceremonies, and parades. Adventures like hikes and camping are usually Class B uniforms. If you have any questions check with your Den Leader or Cubmaster about what the uniform is for the adventure.

Where do all these patches go on the uniform?

For how to take care of your uniform or to find out where patches go on your uniform visit our Uniform section.

What do cub scouts do?

We have fun adventures that promote leadership and citizenship throughout the year. For a great overview of the benefits of scouting, visit our Scouting 101 page. During our meetings and activities we work on and complete our Rank Adventures.

What rank will my son be?

The cub scout program is for boys in first through fifth grades. Boys are grouped together by age so we can have appropriate activities for each boy. First graders are Tigers. Second Graders are Wolves. Third Graders are Bears. Fourth Graders are Webelos. Fifth graders are Arrow of Light candidates.

How do we advance in ranks?

Every rank requires the completion of seven adventures. Some of these are required adventures and some are elective adventures. For more information please see our Advancement 101 page.

I have more questions, who can I talk to?
